Cara Cara Oranges?

Oh these are my favorite citrus fruit of all time! And I am not kidding! One of you is always saying, "Oranges again? My crisper is full of them!" Well, I guarantee these won't stick around. They are generally very easy to peel and super yummy. Here's the official lowdown.

Cara Caras (also known as the red navel orange) originated at the Hacienda de Cara Cara in Valencia, Venezuela. They have a bright orange peel and pink - raspberry colored flesh. Its taste is sweet with undertones of sweet-cherry, with a low acid profile. Very juicy and best when eaten fresh out of hand, Cara Caras are also popular with chefs for use in cooked sauces.

Yumm yumm yummy!

By the way, we are nearing the end of the citrus season, so enjoy them while you can. Summer valencias are never as good as the winter navels and they help keep your family healthy to boot!
