So I was curious.
With the nation's current financial struggles on Wall Street & with gas/oil, I wanted to know if we are saving money by doing the co-op. It takes a lot of time & is sometimes inconvenient to wait around every other Thursday for a phonecall, make phonecalls to 2 people, pay through PayPal, drive to someone's house to pick up a basket, & take boxes home to throw away.
I went to Wal-Mart in Orem yesterday to check prices. I carefully weighed everything we got & compared.
Here's a comparison of some items: Co-op / Wal-Mart
Strawberries 1.74 / 2.88
Cauliflower .93 / 2.36
Carrots 1.80 / 2.96
Celery .66 / 1.32
Grapes 4.44 / 2.83
Green Leaf .96 / 1.44
Romaine 1.08 / 1.48
Caesar Dressing 3.16 / 3.48
Mushrooms 1.25 / 3.18
Pineapple 2.12 / 1.98
It would have cost me $50, including tax. The only thing that cost less at Wal-Mart was the pineapple, which was 14¢ less. That is a 30% difference from what you paid.
So, are you really saving money? Yes, you are.
