Preparing Pomegranates

Tart, juicy, bright red pomegranate seeds make a terrific garnish for holiday desserts, fruit salads, and green salads as well as a refreshing snack. But freeing the seeds from the pith and membrane beneath the leathery skin can be a messy chore, unless you follow this tip
1. Cut the pomegranate in half and place both halves in a large bowl of cool water. Break apart the halves under water and separate the seeds. The seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl, and the pith and membrane will float to the top.
2. When all of the seeds are separated, skim the detritus off the top, and drain.
