This comes to us from Angelee Nielsen via her sister-in-law, Ashley. This is delightful--I guarantee your whole family will like it.
5 apples (preferably a variety of types), peeled, cored and chopped
4 small oranges, supremed
seeds from 2 pomegranates (see seed separation techniques here or here)
3 bananas sliced
All right--let's be honest here--you can add whatever fruit you like. Grapes would be delightful. Some traditionalists may like walnuts, though I say walnuts are always better off in their shells than on my plate. Perhaps some sweet ruby red grapefruit. Use your imagination.
So, you combine all that yummy fruit in a bowl. Now here's the part that makes everyone love this--and really qualifies it as a dessert rather than a salad: Cover the entire thing in one pint of cream that has been sweetened to taste and whipped.
A word of caution: DO NOT SUBSTITUTE COOL WHIP. If I hear of any of you substituting Cool Whip for actual whipped cream, I may show up unannounced at your home to demonstrate the reasons why you can afford the two minutes it takes to whip yourself up some authentic, enticing, and thoroughly enjoyable cream. Cool Whip, uuhhgg! You thought I killed your appetite for maraschino cherries, don't even get me started on the Cool Whip.
OK--now that we're all on the same page about the cream, mix everything up together and enjoy!
